An approval workflow routes an action to a named person, who must approve it before it is carried out.
Approval workflows are old: purchase orders, leave requests, expense claims. With AI staff they matter more, because AI produces work quickly and in volume. The approval step is where a person decides whether that work goes out.
A good approval rule is specific. 'Refunds above ₹5,000', 'the first email to a new lead' and 'spend above ₹10,000' are rules a manager can act on quickly. 'Anything important' is not. Each rule should also name who approves, so nothing waits in a shared queue with no owner.
In Staff.work, approval rules are set for each staffer, and the workflow builder has a human approval block you can place at any step. The manager approves or declines what is waiting, and the decision is recorded in the work log.
